Chairman's ReportBLA Conference October 2004 CanberraBLA's next conference will be held in Canberra on 6 & 7 October 2004. BLA meets twice a year to achieve its goals. The second meeting of the year is being hosed by the ACT government and the Commonwealth government in Canberra. The meeting is being held on 6 & 7 October 2004. The major agenda items are as follows: ACT - Overview of the Construction Occupations (Licensing) Act 2004. The Act commenced on 1 September 2004 and to replace provisions in several laws that cover the licensing of, and disciplinary action against builders, building surveyors (building certifiers), drainers, electricians, gasfitters, plumbers and plumbing plan certifiers. Home Warranty Insurance BLA will update each other on the major changes which effect the way Home Warranty Insurance is delivered in each jurisdiction. Qld will give a presentation of its Statutory INsurance Scheme. Productivity Commission Report The Commonwealth Government will review the Productivity Commission's report in the Building Industry. Mutual Recognition Victoria will lead a discussion into ways jurisdictions can share information on licensees who have been suspended, cancelled, had conditions imposed or court action taken. Supervision Sth Australia will give a presentation into their Supervision model. Qld will introduce BLA to their proposed changes to the Supervision policy in Queensland. BLA will generaly discuss Supervision of building work across Australia and New Zealand Australian Construction Industry Forum Terry Sanders board member of ACIF will present to BLA on the role and responsibilities of the ACIF. NSW Continuing Professional Development Update CPD became mandatory in NSW on 1 March 2004. The model has undergone changes since that date.
